Cheltenham Festival ante post Part 1. Bankers.

It’s getting closer than close now. I can’t wait to hear the roar from the crowd as the horses charge up the hill. Easily the biggest spectacle of the racing calendar ( although maybe a biased opinion)

ive selected four that I think will win there respected races with ease and skybet have a whopping 66/1 special on the four!

A horse that needs no introduction, he was the best staying hurdler of 2016 and took that into his chasing  career comfortably seeing off everyone in his novice ventures, put into the King George and run high class experienced chasers into the ground. Could he be the best chaser of the modern era. I certainly think so. Cheltenham gold cup is the pinnacle of the jumps racing calendar for most and providing he stays up I don’t think there’s any stopping him. Anti post banker for sure. Unbeaten in 9 and could go anywhere from here on in. Going to go with win by 5 lengths or more.

2) Douvan ( queen mother champion chase)

One of the most exciting horses I think I’ve ever watched. And in time will probably be a gold cup winner. The pace provided by this horse is something to marvel at and if chosen to run this race I can’t see any other horse having the beating of him. Although still early Mullins has mentioned the qmcc as the ideal target and can see this being very one sided if so. Douvan to win by 3 or more lengths here for me

3) uknowwhatimeanharry (stayers hurdle)

Probably the best staying hurdler around at the moment picking up the JLT long walk hurdle last outing bringing an unbeaten run to 7 Harry fry has really got a tune out of this 9 year old and I don’t see anything stopping him running away with This years renewal again fancy a 4-5 length victory for the jp McManus owned fella.

4) Finians Oscar (Neptune)

last but certainly not least this fella has been turning many a head recently and it’s hard not to like the way he goes about his business. A personal favourite for myself I can’t see him being pegged back bar accidents, mr tizzard has himself a smart horse indeed here. After winning the tolworth recently he’s proved why his trainer thinks so highly of him and his owners shelled out 250k after Tom Malone ‘fell In love with him’ after speaking to Jamie codd who done the steering in Finians ptp victory. Another I feel will win by a margin.

Now you might have noticed at the end of each horses write up I’ve added to win by a margin well here is why! Sky bet are offering a whopping 66/1 for the 4 to win by 3+ lengths or more. I’m on this and wouldn’t put you off jumping on!!

Hurricane Fly

As I sat watching old races of Hurricane fly I realised how much I miss that amazing horse!

With a career that started in a 2 runner 6f race in France, fly was second of two. Who would of thought that racing history would be made with him.

In his first start over timber in may 08 he won a 22 runner maiden hurdle and never looked back picking up an incredible 23 wins from 29 starts over hurdles and cemented himself as the greatest hurdler of all time. 22 of which where grade 1 wins. ‘ A horse of his generation’ Hurricane fly recorded 5 Irish champion hurdles, Ryanair hurdle 3 times,  Stan James champion hurdle 3 times among other big race wins. 145140-173355.jpg

My favourite horse of all time my first memory that sticks out from watching the Cheltenham festival March 2015, Hurricane fly beat off peddlers cross and Oscar whiskey in the champion hurdle. After watching this is decided I loved jumps racing and have embarked on a journey of obsession with the sport since.

My favourite race I’ve ever seen him in has to be the Ryan air hurdle 2014 when he wasn’t fluent at the start of the race but grew in confidence throughout and gunned down jezki and Arctic fire, finishing so strong after winging the last. Still to this day I remember jumping around the bookies not at the fact I’d won money it was he won and won with guts and determination. From 29 runs he never seen the canvas and this is the reason I think he will be regarded as the best ever. In my eyes anyway!!

A horse I sorely miss watching. I hope your enjoying your retirement fly!!

King George 2016

Time to preview the King George 2016.

With the withdrawal of coneygree question marks where drawn on the depth of this 2016 renewal but throw in thistlecrack and the excitement has hit the roof again. So which one of tizzards stable stars will win the 2016 king george. Cue card the reigning king against his younger companion. Thistlecrack has taken to chasing like a duck to water but there is questions to be answered being blooded into such a big race. His speed and quality over hurdles was a marvel. But can he transfer it over to the bigger obstacles? Can cue card retain his title and set his sights for a second tilt at the triple crown? Is there a surprise in the mix? Now at bigger odds if outlander comes over and has a run. I think he could get close to the pair if they really go at each other needless to say it’s come from an average renewal into a boxing day bonanza.

I’m having a pop on thistlecrack with outlander as a value ew if involved. Good luck all and merry Christmas!!!

Weekend Look ahead

That time of the week when the head turns to the weekends racing tingle Creek, bechers chase and for me the grade 3 juvenile at fairy house Sunday! I’m going to run you through who I think will go close this weekend and my reasoning behind the madness.

But first a look back to the hennessey, what a race they all came trying and one by one native river battled them off as he galloped relentlessly throughout. double Ross cut most of the running and ran a game race throughout but once dickie Johnson got to work on native river he went on well idled from the last then found more when pressed by the impressive staying on run from Caroles destrier. ( I called this in my blog last week) and it won me a pretty penny indeed.

OK enough of the gloating onto some serious business.

I’ll start with the becher chase Aintree Saturday 1:35, lots to like about 5-6 of these but which one will stay the distance and the test of the national jumps. your looking for a 8yo upto 12 yo, preferably with experience over national fences and bags of stamina. I’ve got it down to three who I believe will be in the shake up.

1) ucello conte (10/1 most bookmakers)

Gordon Elliott charge sixth in this year’s national, experience of the course, fits the 8-12 yo bracket and should be there at the end.

2) Viconte du noyer (12/1 most bookmakers.)

Well this is an obvious choice for an ew shout for me. yard in cracking form landed grade 3 at Cheltenham last time out and expect to be backed heavily.

3) Highland lodge (16/1 most bookmakers)

Last year’s winner goes well round here experience and age all fit the bill should place.

Tingle Creek Sandown 3:00

One of my favourite races of the season coupled with one of my favourite horses of modern times. return of the sire??

If willy mullins sends his two stable stars across the water to have a tilt at the tingle this race becomes harder but sire de grugy is the raining defending champion and with his confidence boosting victory at Ascot why not? I’d love to see a sprinter sacre esq moment this weekend and watch one of the greats outrun mullins hotshots. and I’m quietly confident he’ll do just that!!

Sire de grugy win for me 7/2 most bookmakers.

Finally the juvenile hurdle across the water and we have a really exciting prospect from Mr o Brian’s yard running again. land of hope and glory has been exceptional in his two starts over timber bolting up on both occasions, one of my young horses to watch this season. I’m expecting him to carry on his smart progress this season and take this grade 3 juvenile hurdle.

12:40 Sunday fairyhouse land of hope and glory (5/4 most bookmakers.

Hennessey Gold Cup

Second blog for 3furlongs out and with the hennessey gold cup coming up this weekend I thought be fitting to for a little trip down memory lane look into the history of the great race, previous winners and the chances of the years runners.

The race was first run in 1957 at Cheltenham won by duel winning mandarin (1957 & 1961) the second running of this grade 3 chase was moved to Newbury.

The race sponsored by peggy hennessey is the longest commercial sponsorship in racing history and has an illustrious list of winners with the great denman winning the race twice. with arkle the only other duel winner of the race.

All the questions and maybe I may have the answers?

Can smad place join the great 3 mentioned above ? if the ground eases more then I believe there’s an each way shout but I think it’s a big ask for him to win.

My big fancy for the race is native river, form ✔

Trainer form ✔

Ground in favour ✔

(Best odds 13/2 betfair)

One at longer odds is of interest to me is outlander needs ease in the ground but can see this horse going very close at larger odds.

(Best odds 20/1 skybet)

I’m going to take native river to win and outlander ew.

A day in the life of a stable girl.

This being my first blog for 3furlongsout I’ve interviewed A young lady who works for Alan king looking after some of his superstar horses.

Elouise Chapman has been riding horses most of her life and in January 2015 embarked on a journey into racing by starting a 3 month course at the racing college. Apon completion of her course in April 2015 she went on to join Alan kings stable, looking after stable star yanworth amongst other horses in Alan kings string, riding out daily on 3/4 different horses a day.  On racedays she accompanies the horses to the track and settles them into the stable ready for the race, once they have ran she prepares them for the journey back to the yard. img_20161117_130541

(Elouise aboard yanworth)

Elouise has a vision of becoming a jockey and hopes to go racing in point to point races this season. outside of looking after yanworth and Co she also has her own pointer and is keen to get on the track with him. she is also keen on gaining her license and running under rules and I believe she will succeed.

On Tuesday may the 10th she competed in the national eisteddfod charity race aboard boss alan kings Fred le macon (now with Martin todhunter) the race ended in victory for elouise & Fred.

(Elouise on her way to victory)

After chatting with elouise I was impressed with her attitude towards success and I believe we will see her in the near future winning races. not only point to point but under rules aswell.

Good luck for the season elouise!!!
